Description
This diver's watch is a modern remake of one of our 1980s models, specifically developed for a U.S. contractor who secured a large order for their client. The watch features a robust stainless steel case and a high-performance automatic 24-jewel self-winding movement. Significant upgrades from the original model include a shatter- and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and an enhanced water resistance rating.
Inspired by the 1980 UK MOD specification for automatic diver's watches (DEF STAN 66-4 [Part 1] Issue 3), this model retains key design elements such as the unidirectional bezel and boldly marked dial with tritium paint. The original MOD specification also called for a mineral glass crystal, as documented in the MOD file shown in the final two images. While staying true to the spirit of the original, this updated version incorporates modern improvements, such as the inclusion of sapphire crystal, as detailed below.
These watches offer exceptional value and are competitively priced for high-performance automatic watches of this caliber.

Key Advantages of Sapphire Crystal
Sapphire crystal is the best material for watch crystals due to its exceptional strength, scratch resistance, and durability under adverse conditions. These qualities make it a popular choice for military personnel, security professionals, police officers, and active outdoor enthusiasts—groups that represent over 70% of our customers.
Compared to mineral glass, sapphire crystal offers:
- Superior Strength: Heat-treated during manufacturing to remove internal stresses, enhancing durability.
- Shatter Resistance: Far less prone to cracking from accidental impacts.
- Scratch Resistance: Maintains clarity and longevity even with daily use.
In fact, over 90% of watches that sustain crystal damage are those with mineral glass, even when hardened. Sapphire crystals are now a standard feature in high-end watches and even modern smartphones, such as the latest iPhone.
While sapphire crystal comes at a premium price, its benefits far outweigh the cost, making it the optimal choice for professionals and adventurers alike.
